It was many and many a year ago in a kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know.

Sweet Teeth

You guysssss, did you ever watch Pippi Longstocking? Lauren and I loved that movie. This scene is like a vague dream from my childhood. When I see it, I can taste the smell of my pillowsack when it's filled with Halloween candy. Those kids eat so much candy they can hardly breath and they eat it until they are sick. That's how I always wanted to eat candy.

When you were younger, didn't you think alcohol was going to be delicious? In the movies people were always wanting to drink it so I assumed it tasted amazing and it always looked so sparkly and adult. I imagined tumblers full of whiskey tasting of liquified Swedish Fish.
Dommage.

Ten Things I Liked About Yesterday:

Ed got more hot chocolate for the office kitchen. Ghetto mochas forever.

My towel sits next to the heater in my bathroom. Warm towels after showers forever.

Seeing someone run after the bus and actually catch it.

The song Vesuvius off the new Sufjan album, especailly the end.

Wednesday's farmers market.

Buying walnuts with the shells at the market and finding the exact way to hit them with a hammer without completely shattering the nutmeat.

Apple and Walnut Tart. A tart is what you make when you want to make a pie but have no pie pan. Then you call it rustic.

Trees remembering to take the tart out of the oven before it burned without me calling him.

Having an uncomplicated and only mildly confusing conversation with the people at Penn Camera and then having almost no line at Trader Joe's.

Gemma Jones' character in You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger. Oh and Josh Brolin's pot belly, that too.

sometimes you get caught in a thunderstorm without an umbrella.

but at least you didn't put mascara on that morning and know that an education is waiting for you at home.

a beautiful rainy day movie with pretty carey mulligan and a great soundtrack.

clambake.

last week my dad, kathryn, (maybe brian) and i stayed up late on a school night to watch clambake, an old pelvis movie. his movies are so cheesy but really entertaining. now that it's been well over 30 years and the retro look is in, everyone looks so stylish.

and here's a still from the movie of Shelley Fabares wearing what is undoubtedly the most fantastic swimsuit of all time.

at sandbridge we had our own clambake of sorts. tuesday was a dreary day so my dad, john and i left the beach early and went to bonny & sons to pick up clams, oysters and crabs. everything was caught in Back Bay and basically Caroline and I hoarded the crabs and ate as much as we could before everyone came back from the beach.

caroline and claude (i ate claude)

i realize there are no photos of clams or oysters for that matter. it is what it is, the crabs were amazing and i would put "chesapeake seasoning" on absolutely anything.

i was hiding under your porch because i love you

this photo is not an accurate reflection of my normal commute.
i thought i was going to have a panic attack this morning on the metro.
i had to take a longer route walking to foggy bottom this morning just so i could stay in the shade, but even that didn't keep me from overheating. once i crammed myself onto a train among what i assume to be the tallest men in DC, i realized the air conditioning wasn't on.
my bangs were blanketing my forehead, i could feel my hair rising and frizzing, a briefcase dug into my ribcage and i felt thirsty, so thirtsy. luckily, with the help of a 25% banana republic coupon i dug out of my purse, i was able to fan myself and survive the ride.

i can't remember ever being as hot as i have the past week. yesterday i went to safeway and nearly everything i bought was refreshing. i trudged up wisconsin fully intending to buy bell's two hearted IPA and instead returned with a lime and a pack of coronas.

when i got home, i put my air conditioning on full blast and ate avocado toast in front of the vent.

also, can i please have a pet avocado with a gun?
